Knots
Herttoniemi hospital, Helsinki 1–31 Jul 2013
Life is full of knots. The joint exhibition of Kuukulkurit members presents paintings that tell about life’s knots: human relationships, various moods, sailing the world’s oceans and cities; dangerous waters; vast, calm sea; life’s storms and calm weather. Knots tie together or they unravel; knots are made to be resolved or have already been resolved in images.
The Knots exhibition theme aims to take a stand socially on especially the youth’s wellbeing. In general, the youth are feeling worse than before, and they accumulate even serious problems. For instance, the number of young people retiring on a sick pension due to depression is increasing, and some youngsters are also suffering from the consequences of the economic recession. The exhibition brings up “the youth’s knots” and opens them up through visual arts, bringing attention to preventing the youth’s discomfort.
