Encounters in Nature
Kustaankartano elderly centre, Helsinki 14 Feb – 31 Mar 2016
The Encounters in Nature exhibition displays works from Miila Vainio and Sanna Sipi. The artists share a common theme, nature and animals, but they approach their subject with different techniques.
Vainio’s large, imposing works are created with the batik technique. She paints her subjects on the canvas in layers. The result conveys sensibility that suits the mystical world of the paintings.
Sipi uses printmaking methods: etching, aquatint, lithography and monotyping. The technique is visible in her meticulous imprint. Sanna Sipi’s works are strongly storytelling frozen moments about animal encounters. The atmosphere is often charged, but also slightly humoristic.
